Dracaena draco, the Canary Islands Dragon Tree or Drago, is a subtropical tree in the genus Dracaena, native to the Canary Islands. It was first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1762 as Asparagus draco. It is often used in sustainable landscape projects due to its drought tolerance in arid conditions. When the bark or leaves are cut they secrete a reddish resin, one of the sources of the substance known as Dragon’s Blood, used to stain wood including priceless Stradivarius violins! Famed also as an indoor plants that help reduce indoor air pollution, it releases water vapour and increases moisture levels thus reducing dry-air conditions.
